How Is CBD Hash Made? Dry Sift, Ice Water, Static & Pressing

CBD hash can be obtained through several types of process: mechanical trichome separation, dry sifting, ice water, electrostatic sorting and, where applicable, pressing. This page explains the principles without becoming a home-production tutorial.

Glandular trichomes are found particularly on the surface of flowers and contain many cannabinoids and volatile compounds. Many hash-making methods aim to concentrate this resinous fraction.

Dry Sift relies on dry mechanical separation: material passes over mesh that lets finer particles and trichomes through.

Mesh size, raw material and the number of stages affect the proportion of plant matter in the result.

Ice-water processes use the brittleness of trichomes at low temperatures and filtration through different mesh sizes. The recovered material must then be dried properly to limit moisture-related problems.

Static separation exploits differences in the electrostatic behaviour of particles to refine sifted material.

It can be used as a purification stage, but final quality still depends on the starting material and process control.

Pressing can bind kief or sifted material into a block of hash. Rosin refers to mechanical extraction using pressure and heat to release a resinous fraction.

It is therefore important to distinguish “pressing hash” from “producing rosin”.

Ask about or check: raw material, declared method, any added ingredients, batch, CBD percentage, CBD content, THC percentage, THC content, weight, texture and storage.

A sophisticated method cannot make up for poor raw material or unsuitable storage.

Does Ice Water leave water in the final product?

The process uses water, but the recovered material must be properly dried before packaging.

Is Static Hash automatically purer?

Not automatically. Sorting can refine material, but actual purity must be checked through composition and analysis.

Are rosin and pressed hash identical?

No. Rosin is resin extraction using pressure/heat; pressing kief mainly compacts the material.
