How to recognise quality CBD: criteria, freshness & transparency

Words such as premium, “superior quality” or “selection” are commercial descriptions. To compare CBD products properly, start with what can be observed or documented: format, origin, growing or production method, appearance, freshness, composition, batch, weight, storage and declared information.

A compact flower is not automatically better than an airier flower; creamy hash is not automatically purer than dry hash. Format must always be considered in context.

For a CBD flower, look at bud integrity, trimming, visible trichomes, absence of foreign matter and a structure consistent with the stated genetics and growing method. For Small Buds or Trim, adapt expectations to size and format.

For CBD hash or resin, uniformity, texture and appearance can indicate physical condition, but cannot establish purity or CBD percentage on their own.

The aromatic profile should match the product description and should not be dominated by an abnormal, damp or deteriorated smell. Terpenes and other volatile compounds change with time and post-harvest conditions.

Heat, light, air and moisture can alter aromas, texture and certain constituents. A good product description should therefore be consistent with storage recommendations for the format concerned.

The CBD percentage and CBD content indicate a concentration or quantity depending on the unit used. The THC percentage and THC content must be read separately.

A high CBD percentage does not guarantee more visible trichomes, better drying or better storage. If an analysis is provided, check that it identifies the laboratory, method, date, batch or sample and units used.

In Switzerland, the THC threshold remains an important regulatory figure, but overall compliance also depends on the product category.

Indoor, Greenhouse and Outdoor describe a growing environment, not an automatic quality ranking. For flowers, genetics, harvesting, drying, trimming and storage remain decisive.

For hash and resins, the declared process — for example sifting, water/ice, separation or pressing — must be distinguished from the final texture. Origin, batch, any ingredients and the stated method should remain consistent between the product description and the product.

Always compare total price, weight and, where useful, price per gram. Price differences can reflect growing methods, sorting, bud size, production process, batch rarity or packaging — without alone guaranteeing superior quality.

The clearest approach compares two products using the same checklist: format → origin → freshness → aromas → batch → CBD percentage → THC percentage → weight → price.
