SMALL BUDS & TRIM
Small Buds, Medium Buds and large flowers describe a grading by size. The exact terms may vary between shops, but the idea remains the same: sorting buds by size and presentation.
This classification is only useful when it is clear. Size should not become shorthand for “low”, “medium” or “premium” quality. A small bud that has been grown and stored properly can be more appealing than a large, dry or poorly trimmed flower.
Small buds obtained during sorting. They favour quantity for the price and have less visual volume in the bag. They should still be recognisable as flowers when sold under this name.
Medium Bud refers to an intermediate size. At GreenChill, the term makes the presentation clearer: buds more developed than Small Buds, without necessarily being the largest in the batch.
The largest buds often have strong visual appeal and may show a more striking structure. They are more sought after for premium ranges, which is frequently reflected in the price.

Small buds have more surface area relative to their volume and may be more sensitive to overly dry storage. Large flowers also contain an internal structure and small stems: no format is “100 % usable material”.
Large buds are easier to showcase in a photo. This is another reason not to confuse a product page’s marketing presentation with the batch’s objective quality.
A bud’s size cannot tell you its composition. Content figures should come from a batch analysis. Two sizes of the same strain may be similar, but their appearance does not guarantee this.
Aromas depend on genetics, cultivation and post-harvest handling. Well-stored small buds can retain a clear profile; poorly stored large buds can lose their appeal.
